12 reasons to come on Saturday

With a respectful nod to our friends in Belfast and Cardiff, here are 12 reasons why you should be at the Skydome on Saturday night for our Elite League game against the Dundee Stars (7pm face-off).

1. Marc Lefebvre.

Everybody’s favourite* ex-Blaze Coach Marc Lefebvre is back in town with his in-form Dundee Stars.  Last time ‘Favor’ and his gang came into the Skydome, Matt Marquardt stole the show with 1+2 in a 4-1 drubbing of the Scottish team. Will history repeat itself?!

* Some do prefer Paul Thompson, Matty Soderstrom, or Chuck Weber.

2. Home Form.

The Blaze are on fire at the moment on home ice, winning 4 of the last 5 games at the Skydome.  Manchester (twice), Braehead and the Belfast Giants have all been put to the sword in Coventry in front of jubilant passionate home crowds.

3. Barry Almeida.

The diminutive American has exploded onto the Elite League scene with 8 points (2 + 6) in just 6 games so far. The former Kelly Cup winner has settled nicely onto a line with his cousin, TJ Syner and Captain Jordan Pietrus - your #BlazeMOTM last Sunday is quickly becoming a firm favourite in Coventry.

4. Scorch.

The hardest working mascot in the Elite League is worth the entrance fee alone. Lately his dancing skills have noticeably improved. Watch out for his “cha cha cha”, and don’t forget to give the Green Fire Breathing Machine a big fist pump when you see him.

5. Josh Godfrey’s slapper

The holder of the ECHL’s hardest ever slap shot at 102.7 miles per-hour has found his groove in his second season with the club. 8 goals so far, 6 on the powerplay. Watch out as the Blaze #15 winds up from the blue-line. Blink and you might miss it!

6. #Robbomania

#Robbomania is starting to take over the Skydome again and Saturday will be his 100th total appearance for the club! The canny Canadian was 0+2 last Sunday against Manchester and scored an empty netter the previous night to secure the points for Blaze.  Robbo can't wait to go again on Saturday.

7.  Chances to win prizes!

All night long you get the chance to win things, from a Subway Sandwich, to £200 on the DRP Chuck-a-Puck. There’s the Suretax 50-50 and the Southam Agri game-worn prize this week is a good one - the jersey off the back of star netminder Brian Stewart!

8. Brian Stewart stretching

Speaking of 'Stewy', now everyone knows we have the best netminder in the league, but did you know we also have the best ‘stretcher’ in the league?!  Keep an eye on the 6'5” Canadian between whistles and when the puck isn’t in his end.  An octopus in a past life?! We’re not sure, but the things Brian can do with those big long legs will leave you amazed.

9. Returning Playoff Champions

As well as a returning former coach, we have two ex-Blaze players coming back to Coventry on Saturday night. Craig “Cescy” Cescon and Cale “Tank” Tanaka. Both play-off winners with the Blaze of course and huge favourites with our fans. Craig has unfortunately been out through injury recently and therefore may not play, but Cale, fresh from scoring last weekend will be buzzing around the Coventry ice in his own ‘ratty’ style. We look forward to seeing the pair on Saturday, we just hope they don’t leave smiling.

10. Face in the Crowd

Will you be a face in the crowd? With our army of photographers that patrol the Skydome there is every chance that you may appear on one of our Social Media platforms that night or in the next few days after the game. Show off to your friends – but, if you’ve pulled a sickie from work to come to the game, you better hide!

11. Help make Christmas special for the children of UHCW

Drop-off presents to our friends from PET-XI (in front of the SkyLounge) and help make Christmas special for the children of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity (UHCW). See full information, here.

12. On-ice go-karting

Last, but by no means least, there will be a pause in the Bubble Ball competition as we see Scorch go up against Subman in a go-kart challenge!
