12 reasons to come to the first home game of 2017

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze take on the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday at the Skydome Arena. It'll be the first home game of 2017 with a 5.15pm face-off. Here's 12 reasons why you should join us:

1. Because last time was a thriller

Blaze last met the Panthers at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham on New Year’s Eve – if you don’t know what happened, we won’t spoil it for you…..

2. Because – We have Josh Godfrey on the powerplay

The Blaze defenceman leads the Elite League in powerplay goals (8). Hardly surprising given the ferocity that he can shoot a puck – come and see for yourself!

3. Because – We have Liam Stewart on the penalty-kill

The Brit born forward is making quite an impression in his first pro-season. The league leader for short-handed goals, Stewart’s penalty-killing exploits, hard-working style and never say die attitude has made him a huge fan favourite at the Skydome Arena.

4. Because a British hockey legend is going strong

Recently, Ashley Tait became the first player to reach 700 Elite League points. He celebrated the achievement by scoring in Belfast on Monday. There's plenty more to come from the Blaze #21.

5. Because the December Player of the Month will be revealed

It’s a tight race! Barry Almedia, T.J.Syner and Liam Stewart separated by just a few votes. Who will win?! Find out post-game on Sunday.

6. Because JD is back

Following a cameo appearance in the Belgrade Theatre, Free Radio's John Dalziel will be strapping on the skates and returning to the microphone at the Skydome on Sunday. We thank Gary Simpson for covering over the busy festive period.

7. Because the Golden M's will clash

A (friendly!) rivalry has been brewing. McDonald’s of Coventry and Nottingham will collide in the ever popular Bubble-Ball during the first period break.

8. Because you might get moved up

A group of lucky Blaze fans will be upgraded to the McDonald's SkyBox pre-game. It could be you!

9. Because #RobboMania

He nailed the over-time winner against the Panthers on New Year’s Eve and now Robbo is aiming to fire again on Sunday. Blaze’s joint top-point-scorer in the Elite League takes pride in playing his best, against the best (16 points in 18 Erhardt conference games – 5th overall). He’s also scored in 4 of the last 5 against Nottingham…..

10. Because a Stanley Cup winner will be on the opposition

4 goals, 4 assists, including 2 game-winners against the Sheffield Steelers over Christmas, Jason Williams who hoisted the famous Stanley Cup with Detroit in 2001/02 is one to watch on the Panthers side.

11. Because Garrett Klotz

Going up against the toughest players the league has to offer, including two scraps this past Monday in Belfast, the 6’6” Canadian who leads the league in fighting majors won’t be taking any nonsense!

12. Because – it’s Nottingham.

And anything could happen.....
