Belfast weekend: Saturday report
After deserving better on Friday, the same couldn’t be said for Saturday as Blaze fell 7-2 to a dominant Giants side.
After a goalless opening period, the flood gates opened in the second as Belfast registered two goals 11 seconds apart. Adam Courchaine and Alex Miner Barron scoring his first for the club had responses but a Darcy Murphy hattrick left Blaze 4-2 down after 40 minutes.
As per the night before, the third period belonged to the home side who hit three more unanswered as Brython Preece replaced Kevin Nastiuk for the final 12 minutes.
Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “We weren’t good enough tonight. Last night we played well enough to win a hockey game but tonight Belfast were way better than us. I thought the first period we were good but after that it wasn’t so good. You’re not going to come into a rink like Belfast and win hockey games when you play two periods one night, and one the next.”
