Blake McCaughey Named EIHL Player of the Week

Belfast Giants’ Blake McCaughey has been named Elite League Player of the Week following his Man of the Match performance against Sheffield on Friday 17th March.

The 9-year-old forward helped the Northern Irish side put in a battling performance against their South Yorkshire rivals at The SSE Arena – even grabbing a late goal for Derrick Walser’s side during the game – though ultimately it wasn’t enough to prevent the Steelers skating away with a 5-3 victory.

McCaughey also led the Giants around the ice for their post game salute to the fans, receiving a standing ovation for his efforts.

Unfortunately for Belfast their newest star will not be available for this weekend’s big clash with league winners Cardiff or the playoffs due to impending open heart surgery in London.

On behalf of everyone at the Elite League, we’d like to wish Blake all the best and look forward to seeing him back on the ice again soon!
