Blaze vs. Panthers. Playoff Final Preview

Following a 6-2 victory against the Cardiff Devils yesterday, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze will face the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite League Playoff Final today (4pm face-off).

It will be the eleventh EIHL competition meeting between the teams this season, with both teams having won five of the previous ten.

Three of the ten EIHL competition meetings between the teams this season have seen a shutout – two by Nottingham and one by Coventry, whilst Blaze have scored the first goal in five of the ten EIHL competition meetings, going on to win four and lose one. In the five games in which Nottingham have scored first, they too went on to win four and lose one.

Blaze average 27.5 shots in EIHL competition games between the teams this season and score on every 10.6 shots. Nottingham have averaged a much higher 37.3 shots, but score on a worse ratio of every 12 shots.

Coventry netminder Brian Stewart’s goals against average in 10 EIHL competition games against Nottingham is 3.22, while his save percentage is 91.53%. Miika Wiikman’s goals against average in 8 EIHL competition games against Coventry is 2.34, while his save percentage is 91.1%.

Blaze average 16.3 penalty minutes in EIHL competition games between the teams this season, whilst Nottingham average a slightly lower 14.6 penalty minutes.

Coventry’s powerplay over the ten games between the two is 22.7% (10 from 44). Nottingham’s is 18.6% (8 from 43).

Brett Robinson is Coventry’s top point scorer in EIHL competition games between the clubs this season, with 4 goals and 7 assists (11pts), while Drew Fisher is second with 9 points. Robinson has recorded at least one point in each of the last six against the Panthers and scored in four of the last six. Fisher is Blaze’s highest goal scorer in Blaze/Panthers EIHL competition games this season with 5.

Andy Bohmbach and Juraj Kolnik are Nottingham’s top point scorers vs. Coventry with 10 points each (Bohmbach 4 goals and 6 assists, Kolnik 3 goals and 7 assists). Bohmbach and David Clarke are the Panthers’ highest goal scorers in Blaze/Panthers EIHL competition games with 4 each.

The teams have previously met twice at the Elite League Playoff Finals weekend – a 2-1 Coventry win in overtime in the 2005 Final a 6-2 Nottingham win in the 2009 Semi Finals.
