Captain's Corner (First Edition)
I hope this message finds you well and you are enjoying your week. Our media team have asked if I would contribute a weekly Captain’s Corner for you guys to give you an inside look into what some of the boys are up to on a weekly basis.
I can’t guarantee it will always be entertaining, but I will do my best to keep you guys updated on some topics of conversation that are flying around the locker room and some fun things that the guys are up to.
Locker Room Talk
Ziggy Alberts has become a daily staple on our locker room’s stereo system. Team DJ, David Clements, introduced us to him as soon as us North Americans arrived, and for whatever reason, Ziggy has earned fast fans. A bunch of us even made our way to his concert a few weeks ago in London!
Most songs/artists can grow old fast in a locker room. It’s important to have an artist in your back pocket for when the boo birds start moaning from a few stalls away after a few bad songs... Ziggy always has Clem’s back! Next time you find yourself sitting in afternoon traffic getting off the Ring Road, if you haven’t heard his music, have a listen.
Away From The Rink
Aside from the work we put in on the ice and at the gym, everyone’s schedule seems to vary during the week. We have some avid golfers on the team, so guys are taking advantage of the remaining nice days out on the course. Others spend their down time catching up on some of the latest trending TV shows or spending way too much time playing Fortnite. Most guys mix a combination of those three activities. There are also five guys who are working towards their MBA at Coventry University, so most days are spent rushing between the Skydome and the Uni.
Last weekend was a battle. We played two strong teams and we played well. Unfortunately, not for a lack of chances, we couldn’t put the puck in the back of the net. In this crazy game of hockey, sometimes that happens. This is not an excuse, but I’m sure you guys have played your fair share of sports where even when you’re playing well, you don’t end up on top. We are doing the little things right and I believe the rewards from our work are coming. I like this team. I really like this team. We realize that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and our success comes from elevating our game together. I hope we are proving that to you guys.
It seems as if a few people have tried to name us. ‘The Little Engine That Could’, ‘The Scrappy Little Nobodies’, call us what you want. The boys are hungry!
We will continue to give everything we have for you guys. We know how much the Blaze means to this city.
Please reach out with any sort of questions you have or anything you would like to hear more about.
