Cowley jersey retirement: 18th February

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze will retire the #17 jersey of their all-time leading appearance record holder Russell Cowley on Sunday 18th February 2018 at the Skydome Arena against the Sheffield Steelers.

The British forward retired at the end of the 2016/17 Elite League season following sixteen seasons with the club.

During that time, the now 34-year-old, played 920 games with 452 points (154 goals, 298 assists), winning a British National League double, the Elite League three times in addition to the Play-offs twice, the Challenge Cup and the Knock-Out Cup – including the Grand Slam in 2004/05.

The Associate Captain for Blaze ended his hugely successful career by winning a gold medal with Team Great Britain, whom he appeared for over 60 times, in Belfast at the World Championships (Division 1B).

In recognition of Russell’s significant achievements for the club on the 18th February his number 17 jersey will be retired and raised to the Skydome rafters alongside other Blaze greats such as #12 Steve Chartrand, #25 Adam Calder and #26 Dan Carlson.

Kind words from past teammates, coaches and the man himself will follow in the run-up to the big event.

Put it in your diary as it'll be a special day for Russ, his family, the club and all of our supporters.
