Forbes adds British depth to Blaze line-up

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart has added British depth to his 2018/19 Elite League roster with the signing of 21-year-old forward Alex Forbes.

The 5’11” right-shot winger joins the club from local rivals Milton Keynes Lightning where he spent his first professional season.

Forbes began his hockey career with Elgin Ice Hockey Club near his hometown, Mosstowie in Scotland. At 14 years-of-age he moved to Ontario, Canada with his family where rose through the ranks of the OHA Mavericks Minor Midget programme.

In 2014, he began a three-year stint with Ogden Mustangs of the WSHL where current Blaze defenceman David Clements also enjoyed much success.

Icing over 150 times for the Mustangs and registering nearly a point-per-game, Forbes was named Captain in his final season before joining Milton Keynes, scoring an impressive 61 points in 49 games (27 goals, 34 assists) on the way to a league Championship.

The Scot has iced in three World Junior Championship campaigns with Great Britain’s under-18’s and 20’s, helping the team to promotion from Division 1B with two goals and an assist in the 2016 tournament.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “We wanted to add to our British group of players and signing Alex provides us with more depth and a capable guy. Alex is a work horse. He has a great attitude and wants to get better. He plays with grit and I believe has the potential to get a lot better only being 21 years-old. He had a good first season at the pro level last year and will be much better prepared on what to expect this season. We are excited to work with Alex this season and thrilled to have him as part of our club.”

Alex Forbes commented, “I am very excited to get started in Coventry and to meet my new teammates, staff and the fans. I’ve only heard good things about the town and organisation. I look forward to putting it all on the line for my teammates and the fans! Lastly, I’d like to thank Danny Stewart for giving me the opportunity to play for a great club.”
