Johnston returns to France

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze can confirm that 28-year-old Canadian forward Andrew Johnston will depart the club and return to France with Bordeaux.

The speedy centreman played in 57 Elite League competition games for the Blaze registering 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists).

A popular presence in the dressing-room, Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart had offered Johnston the opportunity to return, but unfortunately for a variety of reasons he has chosen to head back to the Ligue Magnus on a two-year contract.

Johnston, who studied at Coventry University Business School over the 2019/20 season said:

“I want to give thanks to the entire Blaze organisation. To all the great fans, and especially my coaches and teammates. Collectively, everyone made this year so much fun and I am proud of what we were able to accomplish as a team. I feel like we got cut short of a Championship and I am pulling for the Blaze to win one next season. COYB”

The Blaze thank Andrew for his outstanding contribution and wish him, Chelsey and Lewis all the very best for the future.

The Coventry Blaze will be announcing their first signing for the 2020/21 Elite League season later this week.
