Lauzon lands perfect present
Birthday boy Carl Lauzon grabbed a hat-trick as Genting Casino Coventry Blaze made it back-to-back four-point weekends with a 6-5 victory over Edinburgh Capitals in Murrayfield.
Blaze followed up their 12-4 home win over Capitals on Saturday night to reel off a fourth successive victory to put them three points clear of ninth-placed Manchester Storm.
Lauzon (4.32) and Brett Robinson (7.23) put Blaze 2-0 up but Garrett Milan (8.39) and Sean Beattie (9.58) tied it up for short-benched Capitals.
Two further markers from Lauzon (11.59 & 14.10 powerplay) and one from Chris Bruton (14.57) helped Blaze open up a 5-2 advantage.
But Capitals responded once more through Trevor Gerling (18.22 powerplay) and Thomas Stuart-Dant (36.53) to make it a one-goal game.
Bruton doubled his tally with 20 seconds of the middle session remaining and Gerlin's strike 46 seconds into the final period made it 6-5.
Man of the match Lauzon, who turned 29 today, ended with 3+2 and Bruton had 2+2 while Robinson (1+5) was involved in all Blaze's goals.
"We talked before the weekend about doing the business and getting four points and that is what we have done.
"It is not easy with the long bus trip up here but we had to grind it out. I much preferred this match, having to play with a one-goal lead for 19 minutes - it was play-off hockey.
"Edinburgh had their push at times and had a couple of chances at the end when they pulled their goalie but we held on.
"I thought the line of Lauzon, Robinson and Bruton was fantastic. Sometimes you need a line to step up and push you over the top and they did that." - Head Coach Chuck Weber
