Pre-season ends with entertaining defeat
The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze lost an entertaining pre-season game 5-4 against the Manchester Storm in Altrincham on Wednesday night.
The Blaze bolstered their ranks ahead of the game adding Brits Zaine McKenzie (from Milton Keynes) and Liam Stenton (from Solway Sharks) and two-way players Austin Mitchell-King, Sam Russell, plus Nathan Ripley also iced.
Jordan Hedley got the start in between the pipes for Coventry and he was beaten first at 17.36 by Scott Simmonds.
The Storm doubled their lead in the second period through Wade MacLeod on 23.48 before Evan Bloodoff scored his fourth in four games for the Blaze to make it 2-1 at 26.23.
With a powerplay marker on 36.56, Luke Ferrara tied the score 2-2 to end the second period.
David Broll then gave Blaze their first advantage of their night at 43.19, but they were quickly pegged back again as Adam Brady made it 3-3 at 45.14.
Tyson Fawcett then scored to give the home side a 4-3 advantage (50.16).
Ferrara fired home his second of the night to make it 4-4 (55.09), but again the Storm responded with a game-winning-goal by MacLeod with a second at 57.26.
