PREVIEW: 3-in-3 for Blaze

Genting Casio Coventry Blaze travel to Belfast for an Elite League double-header against the Giants at the SEE Arena (Friday and Saturday 7pm) before a big Challenge Cup encounter back home at the Skydome vs. the Cardiff Devils on Sunday (5.15pm).

Head Coach Danny Stewart welcomes new recruit Taylor Carnevale into his line-up, the DEL2 Champion replacing Darcy Zajac earlier this week.

Blaze and Belfast have met twice so far this season with the Giants coming out on top 2-3 in overtime and 1-4, both at the Skydome Arena.

Missing Chris Higgins, DJ Rutherford and Alex Foster already, Belfast followed up their victory in Coventry last Saturday beating the Nottingham Panthers 1-2 at the Motorpoint Arena, without James Desmarais too.

Scorer of a double against the Blaze, Blair Riley was the hero again scoring in overtime for a 1-2 win.

After the two games in Northern Ireland, Blaze return home on Sunday to face the Cardiff Devils in a massive Challenge Cup encounter.

Blaze currently bottom of Group B, two points behind their Welsh opponents but having played two games less need to find form in the completion to gain qualification for the quarter-finals stage. After Cardiff, Blaze have left to play Sheffield and Nottingham away and Manchester at home (the cup game included on season tickets).

It will be the third competitive meeting of the season between the two, Devils winning in the Challenge Cup at the Skydome 3-6 and Blaze victorious in the league encounter at Ice Arena Wales 2-3 in overtime thanks to the club’s top-point scorer Matt Marquardt.

Great Britain International and Devils’ number one netminder Ben Bowns has missed Cardiff’s last two games with Tom Murdy deputising picking up wins against Sheffield and Braehead.
