Preview: Panthers vs. Blaze

After securing qualification for the post-season playoffs on Sunday, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze travel to Nottingham tonight looking to close the gap on 7th placed Dundee Stars.

The Scottish side sit 4 points ahead of Coventry who have 2 games in hand. The two meet on Saturday at the Dundee Ice Arena.

First though, Blaze will go for a sixth win against the Panthers in what will be the tenth competitive meeting between the teams this season.

Both Nottingham and Coventry sit on 28 points in the Erhardt Conference table, 4th and 5th respectively, the Panthers having played 29 games and Blaze 31.

The last time the teams met was last week, when Coventry thumped Corey Neilson’s team 6-1 at the Skydome Arena in the Elite League. The last meeting between the teams in Nottingham was three-and-a-half weeks ago when the Panthers won 4-2 at the Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham.

Unfortunately, no webcast is available tonight but there will be updates provided throughout the game on Twitter via @covblazelive

"We go into the arena in Nottingham striving to be back there in the Final Four and Wednesday is another chance in that building to get some more experience on that ice surface.

"They are a top quality team, they are a deep team and you have to be at your best to beat them. Special teams are going to be important and we must capitalise on our chances.

"It is important for us to go into the play-offs playing good hockey, to keep doing the little things right, to keep playing with structure and with enthusiasm. That is key for us." - Head Coach, Chuck Weber
