Schiestel named Blaze Captain
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart has named 30-year-old Canadian Drew Schiestel as his Captain for the 2019/20 Elite League season.
The 6’1” defenceman joined the club this summer from Elite League rivals Cardiff Devils where he played a pivotal part in them lifting the Playoff championship.
Prior, Schiestel gained a wealth of experience in a number of well-respected European leagues including the DEL (Düsseldorfer EG), Denmark (Rungsted Seier Capital), EBEL (Fehérvár AV19) and Norway (Lørenskog).
The Hamilton, Ontario native also has near 250 AHL games to his name, and over 20 ECHL appearances.
Schiestel said, "I'm delighted and honoured to be named Captain of the Blaze. I look forward to leading this exciting young group and being part of a successful season."
British duo Luke Ferrara and Ross Venus will continue to be associate captain's for the 2019/20 season.
