Sponsor spotlight: Coventry Business School
Since 2002, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze have held a prosperous, and long-standing relationship with Coventry University allowing a number of players throughout those years to combine study with playing.
The majority of players have taken advantage of courses offered through the well-respected Business School, taking an important step to enhancing career prospects once their playing days are over.
This year, Ross Venus, Ben Lake, Chris Joyaux, Kevin Morris and Shawn Pauly have all taken up the fantatsic opportunity, recently beginning their MBA courses.
That all said, the Blaze are pleased to present the Business School as their first in a series of sponsor spotlight's which ask why sponsor the Blaze and what have been the highlights of being a partner so far:
1/ What is your business called?
Coventry Business School
2/ How long have you been sponsoring the Blaze?
3/ Why do you sponsor the Blaze?
Throughout our 16 year association, over 50 players have graduated in a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines, taking important steps to enhance their career prospects once their days on the ice draw to a close. In fact, some of those graduates, including Jordan Pietrus and Russ Cowley, enjoyed their studies at the Business School so much they went on to spend time lecturing here!
In addition to players coming to us, hundreds of our Event Management students have been able to gain valuable experience volunteering at Blaze games, and it is this employability focus that has helped our Event Management courses be named as the 4th best in the country by the Guardian University Guide. Our partnership with the Blaze also offers pathways for our graduates to get full-time roles within the organisation.
We are proud to have supported the Blaze, on and off the ice, for 16 years, and look forward to many more exciting years to come.
4/ What have you sponsored this season?
This season, we have 5 Blaze players studying at the Business School – Ben Lake, Ross Venus, Kevin Morris, Chris Joyaux and Shawn Pauly. So far, the players have helped us out during Clearing, and have just registered for their courses, so the hard work for them will now take place in the classroom as well as in the Skydome.
5/ What are your highlights or best memories of being a sponsor for our club?
For our 50th Anniversary last season, we sponsored a Blaze game against Guildford Flames – including our Dean dropping the puck and presenting the Man of the Match awards and our University cheerleaders trying out their skills on the ice! We also ran a shirt auction to raise money for the local charity Zoe’s Place, and invited the charity’s mascot down to the game to entertain young children and families. It was a great evening, despite the result, and a good way to celebrate our 50th year with one of our key partners.
