UHCW Charity to take over Blaze game
The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze can announce that on Sunday 23rd February 2020, University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire Charity (UHCW Charity) will be ‘Taking Over’ our game vs. Cardiff Devils at the Skydome Arena (5.30pm).
This season, the Blaze have expanded our partnership with the Charity who make things better for those we love; the patients and their families at University Hospital Coventry, the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby and the community mental health and palliative care services of the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust.
The Charity provides world class equipment, improves facilities and makes the environment more like home for patients and their families. They recently funded a pioneering EHL machine which enables consultants to target and eliminate complex gall stones without the need for surgery, so patients do not need to wait months in pain for an operation, nor have to stay in hospital. The Charity has provided a bereavement garden for our parents who have sadly lost a baby, giving them a quiet, peaceful place to sit outside, away from the busy hospital and on the Cancer unit they fund the annual Christmas party for patients and their families, knowing that for many on the wards this will be their last Christmas.
These are some of the many ways that your gift will help those you love – the patients and their families. The Charity is entirely funded by donations and provides items and facilities across the Trusts, going beyond the limits of the NHS provision.
Should you kindly decide to support them, you can choose where your donation will help, from the tiny babies on the neonatal unit (the only unit in our region and one of only four in the country to receive a level 3 Unicef accreditation), to our world leading renal, cardiac, cancer and reproductive medicine units.
Even the toughest of people need their services sometimes, including #11 Matt Pohlkamp and #44 Drew Schiestel who have required trips to the hospital this season.
Thus far, the Blaze team and some of our sponsors, have taken on UHCW Charity’s Christmas Cracker Event, challenging themselves with the Bear Grylls Adventure. This included players facing their fears on the highest high ropes in Europe, trying their hand at archery and three players were fed to the sharks, diving into the shark tank to help raise funds for the Charity.
Over Christmas, Blaze fans generously donated many presents for patients at the hospital which were delivered to the wards by the Blaze players.
On the 23rd February vs. Cardiff Devils, representatives of UHCW will showcase the amazing work that they do, and we call on all our fans, if you can, to donate in any number of ways.
This could be via the pre-game bucket collection, or by visiting their promotional and having a go at their chocolate tombola, raffle or name the bear game, which might mean you taking a home a huge teddy bear with a Cross Check Clothing Property of Blaze Hockey tee.
