Beleskey double on Blaze TV

It was October 2012 when in his final season with the club, Paul Thompson announced the signing of NHL forward Matt Beleskey.

The Canadian who was 24 years-old at the time was contracted to the famous Anaheim Ducks, but due to the NHL lock-out arrived in the UK looking for somewhere to continue playing whilst the labour dispute was resolved.

He was the second NHL player to play for Coventry after the late Wade Belak joined the club for the same reason in 2004/05.

On arriving in the UK, Beleskey had played 173 regular-season and playoff games for the Ducks registering 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists).

Thompson said of the signing, “I have been overplaying guys and they needed some support. This is going to give them a huge lift. I was looking for a young, hungry player who can play the intense, in-your-face style we have been producing this season and Matt fits the bill. I am expecting him to contribute heavily to our offence. I am absolutely excited to have signed Matt. He is a talented player and I cannot wait to have him in our line-up.”

As part of our retro series of games on Blaze TV, we will be showing both Beleskey's debut and final game. If you don't know the script, you couldn't write it. See the story unfold:
