Blaze victorious in home opener
In their first home game of the 2018/19 pre-season campaign, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze secured a 5-4 victory over the Cardiff Devils.
British forward Luke Ferrara opened the scoring just 9 seconds into the game before Gleason Fournier tied things at one.
On the 11 minute mark, Ben Lake was awarded a penalty shot for Blaze, beating Cardiff's back-up Tom Murdy who played the full 60 minutes in place of Ben Bowns.
Devils hit back again through Stephen Dixon on the powerplay, ending the first twenty minutes at two apiece.
Coventry Man of the Match Kevin Morris, who later fought Bryce Reddick, grabbed back a third lead on a delayed penalty early in the second.
Following a give-away, the Devils again equalised prior to the half-way mark through Michael Hedden.
Jake Hansen, assisted by Matt Maurice who joined the Blaze line-up as part of his two-way deal with Solihull Barons made it 4-3 to end the second period.
Ben Blood tied things for a fourth time in the third, beating Jordan Hedley who had replaced Miika Wiikman in the Blaze goal.
Ben Lake's second strike on 47 minutes finally put an end to Cardiff's come-back streak, with Coventry skating out 5-4 winners in their first home outing.
