GB International Clements returns

The Coventry Blaze are pleased to confirm the return of British defenceman David Clements for the 2021/22 Elite League season.

The 26-year-old recently starred in the Elite Series, producing eight points (three goals, five assists) in 14 games.

His performances were awarded with a first senior-call up to the Great Britain National Team squad for the IIHF World Championships in Latvia.

Clements played in all seven games against the world’s best including a 4-3 win over Belarus.

The Blaze academy product made 46 appearances in Elite League competition games over 2019/20 registering seven points.

The new deal will see the blue-liner feature for a sixth straight Elite League season.

Thus far he has amassed a total of 318 games with 51 points ((nine goals, 42 assists). He ranks 14th in all-time appearances for the club.

Before turning professional, Clements spent three seasons with the Ogden Mustangs of the WSHL where he was made Captain and became the team’s all-time leading points scorer for a defenceman.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said, "David continues to grow as a player and person and is coming off a big year. Our last season, David made massive strides forward on and off the ice. He has worked hard over the past year to stay game ready, and was outstanding for us in the Elite Series.

"Other than his family, I don't think anybody was more excited for him to get the GB call than the coaching staff. He plays a big part in our room behind the scenes, and his game continues to grow on the ice. He will play a key role for us next season."
